CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State men's basketball team got their sixth straight win as they defeated Cal Poly Humboldt 93-81 in Acker Gym on Saturday. The Wildcats complete the season series sweep and have now won 10 of the last 11 meetings in the storied rivalry that dates back to .
The Wildcats, winner of six straight games, improve to 7-2 overall while remaining perfect in the CCAA at 4-0 as Chico State takes a break from conference play the remainder of the calendar year. The Lumberjacks, on the other hand, fall to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.
Jojo Murphy continues to be on a roll, dropping 26 points without the use of the free throw line. With a season average of 20.1 points this season, the junior has reached 949 career points. Isaiah Kerr got off to a promising start after successfully connecting four field goals for 11 points by the 12:17 mark in the first half. Miles Daniels also had a big afternoon on the court with 22 points finished with 22 points. The trio also were big contributors in the first half, scoring 38 points altogether that propelled Chico State to a 46-34 lead at halftime.
The Wildcat's also put on a defensive clinic. The 'Cats forced the Lumberjacks into committing 13 turnovers which resulted in 23 points off turnovers. Pesky defense and dominant rim protection resulted in 7 blocks and 7 steals for Chico, with Junior forward Trae Taylor contributing to 4 of those blocks.
A Daniels' layup at 13:20 gave Chico State its largest lead in the game at 21, but the rhythm stalled and Cal Poly Humboldt was able to cut the lead down to 12 at 7:32. The rest of the game saw the Wildcats edge the Lumberjacks 20-19 with collecting eight of those points.
The Chico State men's basketball team will host Pacific Union on Thursday. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. located in Acker Gym.
