Wildcats Dominate Non-Conference Matchup

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State men's basketball team cruised to a 25-point victory in Thursday's non-conference matchup against Pacific Union. The Wildcats put on an impressive performance on both ends of the floor to secure their seventh straight win.  

With the victory, the Wildcats improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in non-conference play. Chico State has picked up its sixth home win of the season and now hits the road for their next two games. The team won't return to play at home until January 9 against Cal Poly Pomona.  

Forward Trae Taylor set the tone early, scoring the first four points for Chico State and making five of five field goals with 10 points in the opening six minutes which helped the Wildcats build a double-digit lead by the 16:32 mark of the first half. Chico State never gave up the lead for the rest of the game.  

Chico State's bench was making the difference on Thursday, contributing 22 points to the 'Cats lead. Trae Taylor finished with 17 points on an efficient 72.7 percent shooting from the field. Isaiah Brewington scored a career-high 21 points with 17 of them coming in the first half, leading the Wildcats to a 26-point lead at halftime.  

Chico State controlled the rebounding battle, grabbing 44 rebounds for the game compared to Pacific Union's 23. The Wildcats also succeeded at drawing fouls, earning 19 trips to the free-throw line and converting 17 of them.  

This dominant performance gave the Wildcats a game-high 31-point lead by the 6:39 mark of the second half. The Wildcats maintained control for the remainder of the game, fending off Pacific Union to secure a 25-point victory.  

The Wildcats will return to conference play on Thursday, January 2, when they visit Cal State Monterey Bay. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m.
