A Gr-8 Run! Wildcats Capture Another Regional Title

BILLINGS, Mont. – Amend Park continues to be a favorite path to the NCAA Championships for the Chico State men's cross country team as Mario Giannini and the Wildcats captured the NCAA West Regional championship for the eighth consecutive year and the 20th in program history.
 
Six Chico State runners were awarded All-West Region honors by placing in the top 15 while helping the Wildcats score a combined 40 points and beating out second-place Western Washington by 14 points. Giannini collected another trophy as he crossed the finish line first at 30:25.53, giving Chico State its first NCAA West Regional medalist since Eddie King won it on the very same course in 2018.
 
Dylan White also had a top five finish, clocking in at 30:33.92 to take fourth overall. Matthew Gordon made the top 10 by taking ninth at 30:47.11. Finishing 12th overall was Brayden McLaughlin, who marked at 31:02.30 while Damian Garcia and Daniel Hernandez finished 14th and 15th, respectively, to complete All-West Region team for Chico State. Hunter Dougherty rounded out the Wildcats in the regional meet by finishing 32nd at 31:30.96.
 
As winners of the West, the Wildcats assured themselves a spot to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in nearby Sacramento on November 23.
 
It is the seventh straight season that six Wildcats garnered All-West Region, which awards to the top 25 finishers in the meet. McLaughlin has won the award for the fourth time, Hernandez qualified for the third time and Giannini, White while Gordon and White are first-time repeaters.
