Wildcats Unsuccessful in Scaring No. 20 Gators on Halloween

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Beginning his longest road trip of the season in which requires traveling across the state, the Chico State volleyball team made its first stop at San Francisco State on Halloween Thursday night. The Wildcats tried to scare the 20th-ranked Gators but the host wasn't bothered and eventually swept the match (23-25, 21-25, 18-25).

The Wildcats see their overall record fall to 8-12 and 5-8 in the CCAA. The Gators complete the series sweep and improve to 17-4 overall, 11-2 in conference play.

Claire Nordeen had a busy day for the Wildcats, dishing out 22 assists and making a dozen digs for her fifth double-double in her freshman season. Cashe Olswang had 10 of Chico State's 31 kills.

Chico State ended the night hitting .189 on the attack.

San Francisco State, meanwhile, hit .304 throughout the match and was led by Tamiya Wilson, who had 18 kills in the evening, five more than what she had in the last meeting in Acker Gym early in the month.

Tied at eight in the opening round, Chico State won six of the next seven serves to take the lead. The lead was short lived as the Gators answered back with a run of their own to tie the game at 20. SF State would eventually win five of the final seven rallies to take the set win.

SF State went on another 6-1 run to take a 17-10 lead in the second set. The lead was changed to 23-16 when the Wildcats tried to rally by winning four straight points. Each team traded off serves which led to the Gators capturing the second set and take a 2-0 match lead.

Chico State was unable to recover from SF State's 7-2 start in the third set.

The Wildcats now head south to take on Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. First serve is at 5 p.m. The Coyotes beat the Wildcats in four set at Acker Gym earlier in the month.
