FRESNO, Calif. – The Chico State men's cross country team continues to fill up head coach Gary Towne's office with trophies as the Wildcats coasted to their unprecedented 22

In addition to that 22

Mario Giannini ran a time of 24:06.1 to capture the Wildcats' 16
th individual medalist honor in the last 16 years and the 18
th overall since Chico State joined the conference.
The 18 points came in part of a dominant finish by the Wildcats. 2021 winner Brayden McLaughlin, along with teammates Matthew Gordon and Hunter Dougherty finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Damian Garcia placed eighth and right behind him was Daniel Hernandez while Travis Selby took 19
th overall to round out the top seven finishers for Chico State.
Also rounding out the Wildcats were Sean Alliegro, who placed 21
st overall, last year's winner Dylan White took 30
th and Anders Beil finished 33
rd.
Cal Poly Pomona ended up being the runner-up with 55 points followed by Stanislaus State with 76 points.
Giannini was in 10
th place when he reached the first mile and by the third checkpoint he leaped all the way to first and was ahead of McLaughlin by nearly three seconds. Giannini would have nearly an eight second lead on second-place McLaughlin by the fourth mile mark.
With the conference championship streak intact, Chico State will now seek an eighth straight regional title as the Wildcats gear up for the NCAA West Regionals, held at Montana State Billings on November 9. The Wildcats have had success in Billings, having won the regional title three times (2022, 2018, 2016) throughout the streak.
