National Champion Golden Eagles Sweep Wildcats

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Chico State volleyball team gave everything it had on Saturday going up against Cal State LA, but the defending national champions swept the Wildcats (21-25, 15-25, 13-25) at University Gym in their only CCAA meeting this season.  
 
The Wildcats fall to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the CCAA while the Golden Eagles improve to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
 
Chico was far more aggressive on the attack comparing to Los Angeles. The Wildcats made 105 offensive attempts and was only able to record 26 kills while missing inside the line 19 times. The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, made 44 digs as a team while going 39-for-89 up front with 11 errors.
 
Kassandra Nall and Jillian Davis led the effort up front, combining for 14 kills in 49 attempts. Claire Nordeen recorded 21 assists while Jessie Camarillo led the defensive side of the game with 11 of Chico State's 30 digs.
 
Cal State LA relied heavily on Emily Elliott, who tallied 20 kills and only committed five attack errors on the afternoon. Zuhal Cetin kept busy on the back line, making 20 digs while contributing to six kills
 
The Wildcats head back north to begin a home-and-home series with their Highway 99 rivals Stanislaus State. The first battle will be at Fitzpatrick Arena on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and then the series shifts over to Acker Gym Friday at 5 p.m.
 
Stanislaus State is currently riding on a three-match win streak, taking impressive wins over Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State LA and most recently Cal State Dominguez Hills.
