SAN MARCOS – Della Molina made the podium with a third-place finish, her sister Iresh took sixth and Hannah Wirth reached ninth to round out the top 10 as the Chico State women's cross country team won the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Invitational Saturday morning.
The 'Cats combined a time of 1:46.48 and scored 46 points. Non-NCAA affiliate Salt Lake took second with 80 points and former CCAA rival UC San Diego finished third with 84 points. Out of both the CCAA and NCAA West Region, Cal Poly Pomona placed fourth with 147 points.
Della Molina was the top finisher among NCAA Division II runners with a time of 20:57.0. only unattached Jennifer Sandoval, who won the meet with a 19:53.0 mark and UC San Diego's Isabelle Shepherd beat Molina. Shepherd narrowly edged Molina with a 20:52.4.
Iresh Molina crossed the finish line at 21:00.7 and Wirth made the top 10 with a time of 21:20.1.
The Wildcats return to action October 6 for San Francisco State's Invitational held at the iconic Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow.
