You can forgive the Chico State baseball team if the players seem to be getting a little antsy. After all, thanks to Mother Nature, it's been nearly two weeks since the Wildcats have taken the field. But following their rain-forced series cancelation in Southern California against Cal State San Marcos, the 'Cats will finally be back in action in the friendly confines of Nettleton Stadium, hosting a four-game set versus Stanislaus State, with doubleheaders scheduled for Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and Saturday starting at 12 noon.
Fans can follow the action locally on KPAY Sports 1290-AM, with Mike Baca handling the play-by-play, with the broadcasts simulcast on the Internet. Live Stats and live streaming video are also available online, with links located on the Wildcat Athletics homepage and the baseball schedule page. Accessing the live video stream requires a monthly subscription fee that grants users access to every CCAA event on the network, home and away.
Due to last week's San Marcos rainout, Chico State will be playing its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference games when they take on Stanislaus. The Warriors are 8-6 overall and 1-3 in CCAA play; Stanislaus dropped three out of four last weekend against Cal State Monterey Bay.
Chico State enters the series a 5-4 record on the season. The Wildcats have won both of their home series so far in 2023, taking two of three from both Fresno Pacific February 10–11 and Colorado Mesa February 19–20.
The Wildcats are currently hitting a combined .296, ranking fifth among the 11 CCAA teams. The Chico State pitching staff owns the second-best team earned run average in the conference at 3.65.
The Stanislaus State offense is batting a collective .258, but is second in the CCAA in stolen bases (18) and fifth in runs scored (81). The Warriors' pitching staff is ranked seventh in the conference with a 4.74 ERA.
The last time the two teams met, Chico State swept Stanislaus in a four-game set March 18–19 in Turlock. Interestingly, this weekend's series marks the first time in nearly four years that the Wildcats and Warriors have squared off at "The Nett," when Stanislaus took both games of a doubleheader February 17, 2019.
