Expected wet weather in SoCal dictates baseball schedule changes

Chico State and Cal State San Marcos will now open four-game series Saturday, with doubleheader Sunday and single game Monday

Mother Nature is expected to hit Northern California hard over the next few days with wet weather and cold, windy conditions. The southern part of the state is also expecting the same rainy forecast, which has prompted officials to adjust dates and times for this weekend's scheduled Chico State-Cal State San Marcos baseball series. The four-game set, originally to begin Friday, will now open with a single game Saturday at 2 p.m. A doubleheader is now slated for Sunday beginning at 11 a.m., while the series finale happens Monday at 11 a.m.

Despite the changes, fans can still listen to the action locally and online with Mike Baca handling the play-by-play. Saturday's series opener will be broadcast locally on 93.9 FM KPAY, with the Sunday and Monday contests airing on KPAY Sports 1290-AM. Live Stats and live streaming video are also available online, with links located on the Wildcat Athletics homepage and the baseball schedule page. Accessing the live video stream requires a monthly subscription fee that grants users access to every CCAA event on the network, home and away.

The four-game series marks the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference opener for both the Wildcats and the Cougars.

Chico State enters the series 5-4 on the season after taking two out of three from Colorado Mesa earlier this week at Nettleton Stadium. The 'Cats, winners of four of their last six games, are hitting a collective .296 on the year. The Chico State pitching staff is currently ranked fourth in the CCAA with a team earned run average of 3.65.

Cal State San Marcos is 6-4 on the season, with five of its victories coming at home. The Cougars, which won two of three last weekend in a non-conference series against Concordia Irvine, sports a team batting average of .295, while the pitching staff boasts a 5.93 ERA.

Chico State won the season series with Cal State San Marcos in 2022, taking three out of four March 25–27 at Nettleton Stadium. The Wildcats lead the all-time series with the Cougars 13-5.
