Afifi Posts Career High in Win Over the Broncos

Wildcats Earn First CCAA Conference Victory

CHICO, Calif. - After a battle against the Yotes on Thursday, the Wildcats returned to Acker Gym and earned their first CCAA Conference win against the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 65-55. Adam Afifi stepped up for the 'Cats, dropping 23 points in a career-high-setting game for the junior forward.

The Wildcats improve to 1-1 in CCAA play and 5-1 overall with Saturday's win at home.

Afifi boasted an impressive stat line in Saturday's win over the Broncos, shooting 8 for 12 from the field with two 3-pointers and flawless from the line at 5-5 free throws.

Sophomore Miles Daniels came off the bench to post the only other double-digit scoring night, adding 15 points to the Wildcats total with three assists and a solo steal. Daniels was effective late into the second half, helping the Wildcats pull away from the Broncos, shooting three for four from three-point range with two more field goals from close range.

Freshman Caden Harris did not put up the best shooting night but was battling the Broncos under the basket with six rebounds and three assists.

The Wildcats bounced back from their poor outside shooting performance against the Yotes, shooting just under 50 percent from the field and the three-point range.

Evan Oliver has been an impact player for the Wildcats this season off the bench, staying faithful in his performance against Pomona, scoring eight points on three-for-five shooting with two steals.

Late into the second half, the Wildcats began to make crucial defensive stops, forcing a handful of CPP offensive fouls. Chico State's defense held all but a single Bronco to single-digit points, holding off their best scorer, Brandon Porter, to only two points.

The Wildcats will be on the road next week, heading to Sonoma for a matchup against the Seawolves on Thursday, then skipping down to San Marcos for their first Southern California conference game. Tip-off against SSU will be at 7:30 pm, broadcast on the CCAA Network.
