Wildcats Finish Third at NCAA West Regionals in Monmouth

'Cats Qualify for the NCAA DII Women's Cross Country Championships

Della Molina at West Regions Monmouth 2023

Women's Cross Country | 11/4/2023 12:43:00 PM

MONMOUTH, Oreg. - This is the second time the Wildcats have raced at Ash Creek Preserve this season, and the results didn't entirely fall in place for the 'Cats. The weather was wet, and the course was slick on this race day as the Chico State women's cross country squad put on their spikes for the NCAA West Regionals—racing against the best in the west.

Teams from three conferences along the west coast clustered on the starting line on a rainy Saturday, alongside fellow top CCAA competitors Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Marcos, Sonoma State, and Stanislaus State.

Despite the harsh weather, the rain did not slow Della Molina down from a 4th place finish, crossing the finish with a new personal fastest 6K time of 20:54.2.

Coming in second for the Wildcats was Iresh Molina, clocking a time of 21:37, falling into 21st place.

Teammates Jaclyn Denham and Jacqueline Cascione finished within milliseconds of each other at 36th and 37th, respectively.

Sophie Pelletier and Hannah Wirth crossed the finish line within seconds of one another—Pelletier recording a time of 22:11.7 and Wirth 22:13.

Gracie Dupuis rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats in 76th.

With a team score of 123, Chico State secures third place in the West Regionals after winning the tiebreaker with Concordia University Irvine, qualifying the 'Cats for the National Championships in Missouri on November 18th.

Della Molina is the solo Wildcat to earn All-West Region honors with her top-16 finish.
