SAN FRANCISCO – Daniel Hernandez ran to another first place finish and with the help of teammates Mario Giannini, who took second, Dylan White, Joshua O'Neill and Jesus Villarreal placing in the top 10, Chico State cruised to another meet win at the San Francisco State Invitational held at Golden Gate Park Speedway Meadow Friday evening.
The Wildcats scored 22 points in the twilight run and established a 42-point difference ahead of second-place Simon Fraser. Concordia Irvine ran took the bronze with 89 points.
Although Hernandez ran a 24:42.0 for his second straight meet win, he missed his season-best time of 24:27.4 that was set at the Cougar Invitational in San Marcos two weeks ago. Giannini finished 9.3 seconds behind Hernandez for his second podium appearance in the last three races. White finished fifth in 25:03.2 and has made the top 5 all three meets.
Hunter Dougherty, Anders Beil, Bennett Woodward, Omar Alvarez-Hernandez and Matthew Gordon made the Top 30 while Travis Selby, Brayden McLaughlin and Nicholas Guzman round out the Top 75 finishers for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats will now seek their 21
st consecutive CCAA Championship on October 21, held at Quarry Lakes Regional Recreational Area in Fremont. The men's meet will begin at the conclusion of the women's race at 10 a.m.
