CARSON, Calif. - Coming off of a tough loss on Friday against Cal State LA, it was crucial for the Wildcats to secure three points in their final away game of the conference season. Thanks to an early goal in the 6th minute from Samantha Torres, that goal was well within their reach from the start.
With the three points in hand, Chico State moves into a three-way tie for 5th in the CCAA standings. Their record improves to 4-3-1 after the Sunday showcase in Southern California.
Opening up the 'Cats' account early into the match was Samantha Torres, the freshman scoring her first career goal for the Wildcats.Â
The offense from the 'Cats kept coming and was unrelenting throughout the remaining 84 minutes. Chico State outshot the Toros twenty-six to twelve, with fourteen chances on goal.Â
In the second half, junior Camryn Toole added a goal to the tally with a free header in the middle of the box off a cross from Klayre Barres. This goal was the first of Toole's career with the Wildcats after transferring in from Santiago Canyon College.
Just thirteen minutes later, Summer Baron converted from the penalty spot for the Wildcats' third goal after a rough tackle from the Toros keeper in the box—Baron led Chico State in shots with four, all four on goal.
Emma Hofmann made six saves and collected the shutout against the Toros.Â
Topping off an outstanding showing from the Wildcats was a tap-in goal from Kylie Rolling, the third Wildcat to score their first career goal.
The 4-0 win on the road concludes Chico State's away schedule, and will return home for the remainder of the regular conference season. They will host San Francisco State on Friday at 7 p.m. andÂ
