CHICO, Calif. - Coming off of a comeback win against Sonoma just last week, the Wildcats have found themselves in the postseason tournament conversation. The Lumberjacks visited Chico State on Sunday for a morning face-off, a team that sits just above them in the CCAA standings.
An early goal in the 26th minute was the decider as Cal Poly Humboldt took the conference win.
The Wildcats battled back throughout the game, not shy of opportunities to equalize the game, but could not put a chance in the net.
Avery Pieri and Natalie Mendoza led the 'Cats in the offensive third, recording almost half of the shots for their team with four each. Hannah Pieri tallied three shots herself in Sunday's loss.
Makenzie Gutowski came off the bench for Chico State and was a strong offensive presence, taking three shots with two hitting the frame.
Chico State out-shot their visitors in total shots and on goal chances, with seven shots forcing a save from the Lumberjacks and Emma Hofmann only needing to make one save.
Next weekend, the Wildcats head to Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA for another Southern California road trip—rounding out their away schedule. On Friday, they will start the trip against the Golden Eagles, who sit tied with them at 4th in the CCAA standings.
