TURLOCK – Still looking for a consistent offensive rhythm for the second straight match, the Chico State volleyball team will have to find it another night as Stanislaus State swept the Wildcats 21-25, 14-25, 17-25 to begin a home-and-home series Wednesday.
The Wildcats fall to 4-9 overall and 1-8 in the CCAA. The Warriors improve to 7-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The two sides will drive up Highway 99 to meet again at Acker Gym on Friday at 5 p.m.
After playing the last five matches on the road, the Wildcats now begin a five-match home stand.
Brooke Ono dished out 22 assists and made 18 digs to lead the effort for Chico State. Of the 31 kills collected by the Wildcats, Zoe DiNardo had eight of them, Taylor Whyte earned seven.
Down by three early into the opening set, the Wildcats went to win 6-of-7 serves to take an 11-9 lead. Chico State held on to the lead until Stan State went on the same 6-of-7 run to take a 22-18 lead. Each side traded a point until the Warriors crossed the finish line.
The Warriors opened the second set with a 13-5 lead and later in the game won 7-of-8 rallies to take a 2-0 match lead.
Chico State opened game three with a 10-6 lead. DiNardo earned four of those 10 points on the attack while Lauryn Osendorf had two. Stanislaus State had two big rallies that enabled it to take the lead and secure the match-winning set.
