With 44 games already in the rearview mirror, and only four regular season games remaining, the Chico State baseball team still has plenty to play for. For instance, this week's four-game set at Cal State East Bay will not only wrap up the Wildcats' regular season, but also determine their seed for the upcoming California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament and either strengthen or weaken the Wildcats' NCAA Championship Tournament resume.
The series starts with a single game Thursday at 3 p.m., continues with a doubleheader Friday at noon, and concludes with a single game Saturday morning at 11. All four games will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 and FM-102.9 KPAY Sports. An audio stream of Mike Baca's play by play is also available, along with links to the CCAA Network streaming video feed, and live stats. Those links are all on the homepage (in the calendar section) and on the baseball schedule page at

Chico State enters the weekend ranked No. 4 in the West Region. Six teams from the region will reach the NCAA Championships: the CCAA and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Tournament champions and PacWest Conference regular-season champion; and three at-large teams selected by the committee. The current West Region rankings, released Wednesday, have Point Loma on top of the rankings, followed by Azusa Pacific, Cal State Monterey Bay, Chico State, Northwest Nazarene, Cal Poly Pomona, Western Oregon, and Fresno Pacific.
The Wildcats are also tied for second place in the CCAA standings with Cal Poly Pomona. However, the Wildcats will need to pick up a game to secure the No. 2 seed in next week's CCAA Tournament since the Broncos hold the head-to-head tiebreaker between the teams. Cal Poly Pomona is hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series this weekend.
Fourth-place Cal State San Bernardino is 2.5 games behind the Wildcats and fifth-place Cal State Dominguez Hills trails the Wildcats by 3.5 games with four to go.
Cal State East Bay, meanwhile, is in a tie for sixth place with Sonoma State. The top six teams in the final standings advance to the CCAA Tournament. The top two seeds earn a first-round bye and avoid playing in an elimination game on the first day of the tournament.
