BROOKS—Day one from Brooks in the books and the student-athletes will hit their pillows tonight dreaming of a day without wind, or at least less of it. Sustained winds of 25 to 30 and gusts even stronger wreaked havoc on the scorecards at Yocha Dehe, a gorgeous 6.907-yard par-72 track in Capay Valley nears Brooks, host site of the 2022 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships.
Chico State survived the fray better than its three playing partners, carding a 26-over par 314 despite six double bogeys over the final four holes. They were not alone in their late-round struggles. The four teams that went off last Monday are the top-four-ranked teams in the CCAA according to the national rankings. However, they'll enter the second of three rounds Tuesday occupying third (Chico State), fifth, sixth, and eighth place in the team standings.
Sonoma State, among those that tee'd off at 8 a.m., leads the field at 9-over par. Stanislaus State is second at +16, followed by Chico State, Cal State Dominguez Hills (+27), Cal State San Marcos (+29), Cal State Monterey Bay (+35), Cal State East Bay (+37), and Cal State San Bernardino (+41).

th at 6-over par, followed by Michael Stephens in 19
th (+7), Chris Colla in 27
