Men’s soccer team hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Monterey Bay in final home weekend

The postseason picture is quite cloudy in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, thanks in part to 15 ties out of the 48 conference matches played thus far. But that picture will clear up considerably this weekend as teams play two of their final three regular-season matches. That includes Chico State, which is currently alone in fifth place in the CCAA with 13 points.

The Wildcats, who host conference co-leader Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay (tied for third) Sunday at 11:30 a.m., would clinch a CCAA Tournament berth with two wins, or with a win and a tie and at least one Cal State East Bay loss or tie.

Both matches will be broadcast on the CCAA Network and live stats are also available. Links can be found at www.chicowildcats.com in the calendar section on the homepage and on the women's soccer schedule page. Access to the live video stream requires a subscription fee that grants users access to every CCAA event on the network, home and away.

The team's two seniors, defender Donovan Jackson and goalkeeper Luis Albarran, will be honored prior to Sunday's match.

Chico State enters the weekend with a record of 6-3-6 overall and conference mark of 3-1-4. The Wildcats have lost only once in their last 11 matches and are ranked No. 7 in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is one of six unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Division II men's soccer. The Toros are 11-0-4 overall, ranked No. 1 in the West and No. 3 in the nation, and tied with Cal Poly Pomona atop the conference standings with 18 points and a record of 5-0-3. A single point this weekend would clinch Cal State Dominguez Hills' CCAA Tournament berth. The Wildcats have won three straight and six of their last seven meetings with the Toros in Chico.

Cal State Monterey Bay, 7-5-2 and ranked No. 10 in the West, has won five of its past six matches to climb into a tie for third place in the conference standings with Cal State LA at 5-3-0. The Wildcats have won the last eight matchups against the Otters in in Chico.

Following this weekend's matches, the Wildcats will hit the road to face Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, which will mark both teams' final regular season contest.
