Third-Place Wildcats Embark on Dangerous Road Trip

At Cal State San Marcos Friday and Cal State San Bernardino Sunday

The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men's soccer standings are as deceptive as a magician. Look at one record for a moment, and prepared to be fooled. Just ask defending NCAA Champion Cal State LA and formerly first-place Cal Poly Pomona, who both hosted last-place Cal State San Bernardino last weekend and walked off the pitch with a tie.

Chico State's players would do well to avoid the standings trap this weekend when it travels to face Cal State San Marcos Friday at 12:30 and Cal State San Bernardino Sunday at 11:30. The Wildcats enter the weekend ranked No. 7 in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches. They're 6-3-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the CCAA, good for third place. Cal State San Marcos is 4-7-2 overall and tied for seven in the CCAA at 2-3-1. Cal State San Bernardino (4-3-6 overall and 0-3-3 in the CCAA) is No. 8 in the West Region despite being in last place in the conference standings.

Both matches will be broadcast on the CCAA Network and live stats are also available. Links can be found at www.chicowildcats.com in the calendar section on the homepage and on the women's soccer schedule page. Access to the live video stream requires a subscription fee that grants users access to every CCAA event on the network, home and away.

Chico State is tied for the CCAA lead with a goals-against average of 0.62 and the Wildcats' offense ranks third with 169 shots and is tied for fourth with 1.46 goals per game. Miles Rice and Kristoffer Brown are among four players tied for fifth in the CCAA with five goals scored. Brown ranks fourth in points per game and Adrian Fontanelli is tied for fourth with a pair of match-winning goals.
