SEATTLE — The Chico State men's soccer team fell to Seattle Pacific with a final score of 4-2 on Saturday at Interbay Stadium.
Chico State scored both of its goals in the first half, but Seattle Pacific responded with four goals in the second half to secure the victory.
Nickolas Molina made seven saves, facing 21 shots over 90 minutes, showcasing his defensive efforts. Darius Dukes contributed to the team's offense with an assist and managed two shots, one of which was on goal. Simon Vaca-Lorenzi notched a goal from three shots, adding two points to his total. Nathan Murff also provided an assist, contributing to the team's attacking play.
The first half began with Chico State taking an early lead in the 2nd minute as Simon Vaca-Lorenzi scored with assists from Nathan Murff and Darius Dukes. SPU responded with a shot on goal by JJ Diaz, but Molina made the save. The Wildcats extended their lead to 2-0 in the 10th minute with a goal credited to the team. Despite multiple attempts, including a saved shot by JP Guzman in the 14th minute, SPU could not find the back of the net. The half ended with the Wildcats maintaining a 2-0 advantage, largely due to Molina's four saves.
The Falcons staged a strong comeback in the second half, overturning a one-goal deficit to secure a 4-2 victory over the Wildcats. JP Guzman initiated SPU's scoring with a goal at the 54:54 mark. SPU continued their momentum with David Ochoa leveling the score in the 59th minute, assisted by Judah Straight and Sebastian Rangel. Straight then put SPU ahead with a goal at 61:06. Kasey Toevs sealed the win with a goal in the 76th minute, again assisted by Rangel. Chico State's efforts to respond included shots by Dukes and Cooper Gyll, but they were unable to convert, with Willem Ficek making key saves for SPU.
The Wildcats will open the home schedule hosting Simon Fraser Thursday at 7 p.m.
