119 Wildcats earn CCAA All-Academic awards for 2019–20 academic year

Record number of Chico State student-athletes honored by conference

It's a known fact that when it comes to competition, Chico State student-athletes strive to be the absolute best they can be. The same hard work and dedication the Wildcats display on the field of play also applies to their studies, and this year proved to be a high-water mark for productivity in the classroom. A record 119 Chico State athletes have been awarded California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic honors for the 2019–20 academic year.

It marks the first time Chico State athletes have numbered over the century mark in receiving academic year CCAA All-Academic awards, and the seventh straight year 50 or more Wildcats have earned the honor. The 119 athletes also represented a healthy 28-athlete jump from the 91 Chico State athletes recognized in 2018–19.

A total of 1,169 athletes from the conference's 13 schools received recognition for their scholastic achievements during the academic year.

The award is presented to letterwinners in CCAA-sponsored sports programs who post a grade point average of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 24 semester units of undergraduate coursework during the academic year.

Forty-five of the 119 Chico State student-athletes honored have won multiple academic year CCAA All-Academic awards. Baseball's Tyler Stofiel, Madison Wong of the women's basketball team, women's cross country/track & field distance runner Nora Pizzella, Allysa Ashburn and MacKenzie Deeter of the Wildcat women's track & field team, and volleyball's Bekah Boyle and Kim Wright were honored for the fourth consecutive year.

Eleven others—Wyatt Baxter (men's cross country/track & field), Shelby Burdette (softball), Makaela Keeve (volleyball), Vanessa Holland (women's basketball), Alexandria Tucker (women's cross country/track & field), Natalie Kinney (women's golf), Isabella Moyer and Nadia Torkman (women's track & field), and Sarah Emigh, Madeline Joseph, and Nicole Marquez (women's soccer)—earned CCAA All-Academic distinction for the third time.
