Leads all conference freshmen in goals and points with two regular-season matches to play

After registering a hat trick during a 6-0 win at Stanislaus State Wednesday night and helping to lead the Wildcats another huge victory against rival Sonoma State on Sunday, Chico State men's soccer striker Jacob Chong earned his first California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week honor on Tuesday.

Chong is the 18th player in Chico State men's soccer history to register a hat trick and the first since Andrew McCombs did it on October 20, 2017. He's also the seventh freshman.

On Wednesday night, Chong opened the scoring with a leaping header just 7:22 into the match. He struck again 38 seconds later with a looping header, and wrapped up the evening's scoring with a nifty trap and touch in the 55th minute.

Chong assisted on the fourth goal of the match, dribbling to the touch line before sending a ball back up to the top of the box to Justin Bethke, who played it to Anthony Kaskie, who tucked it inside the far post in the 48th minute.

Chong also helped the Wildcats notch another important victory Sunday, taking two shots (including one on goal) in a 1-0 home win against rival Sonoma State.

Chong leads the Wildcats and all CCAA freshmen in goals (7) and points (16).

Chico State wraps up the regular season this week, playing host to Cal State East Bay Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Both matches will take place at University Soccer Stadium. Senior Day festivities will take place immediately prior to Saturday's match.
