’Cats test 2nd-ranked Tritons, fall 1-0

Back in action Sunday at Cal State San Marcos

LA JOLLA—The Chico State women's soccer team did not beat 2nd-ranked UC San Diego Friday night in La Jolla. But once again, the Wildcats did prove they are among the best sides in the NCAA's West Region.

The host Tritons beat Chico State 1-0 on Kate Hottinger's unassisted goal in the 43rd minute. But the Wildcats made them sweat this one out as much as any team has all season against the Tritons at home.

UC San Diego improved to 8-0 at home. In the seven matches prior, the Tritons had outscored the opposition 19-2, winning by three or more goals four times and 2-0 twice. This marked only their second one-goal home win this season.

Chico State slipped to 8-4-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. All four of those losses have come against teams that have been ranked among the nation's top 25.

UC San Diego improved to 11-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the CCAA.

Chico State will try to get back into the win column Sunday when it takes on Cal State San Marcos on the road. Links to live stats and streaming video for the match are available at www.chicowildcats.com.

After this weekend, the Wildcats will be at Stanislaus State Wednesday, October 30, before returning home to play their final three regular-season matches at University Soccer Stadium.
