There's no place like home for the Chico State men's basketball team. After being away for more than a month, the Wildcats won their 11
th straight at Acker Gym Thursday night, beating Cal State Dominguez Hills 87-67.
It marked their ninth double-digit win in those 11 games, dating back more than a calendar year. The Wildcats have an average margin of victory in 20.3 points in their three home victories in 2018–19.
Cal State Dominguez Hills remains the last team to beat Chico State in Acker Gym. They did so on Dec. 31, 2017. Thursday, Chico State raced to a 14-2 lead that grew as large as 30 while shooting 53 percent in the runaway win.
Sophomore point guard Isaiah Brooks bagged career highs in points (18), rebounds (7), and assists (7) to lead the way, committing only one turnover in the process. Justin Briggs had a season-high 15 points and seven rebounds. Another sophomore, Calvin Geraci, scored a career-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Nate Ambrosini added 14 points. Sophomore Spencer LaShells scored 11 points and notched a career-high three blocked shots. And Kevin Warren gave the Wildcats seven players in double figures with 10.
Sophomore Calvin Geraci scored a career-best
14 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Geraci scored six (a three-point play and a 3-pointer) during an 11-1 run to end the half and push the lead back into double digits where it would remain for the rest of the night.
An 10-0 push to open the second half put the Wildcats in complete command. Briggs scored two buckets inside and Brooks and LaShells each knocked down a 3-pointer while the Wildcats kept the Toros off the scoreboard until nearly five minutes had elapsed.
In fact, Colten Kresl's jumper with 15:16 remaining marked Cal State Dominguez Hills' first made field goal in nine minutes and 36 seconds of play.
Geraci and LaShells combined for 11 straight points a little later in the half, and by that time, the lead had grown to 69-39 with 11:25 to play.
