Intravaia races to CCAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award

Senior scores second straight top-10 finish and breaks 24-minute barrier

SAN RAMON—Jason Intravaia raced to his second top-10 finish in two events this season at Saturday's Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Tuesday he was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

That was not his only first this week. The Danville native broke the coveted 24-minute barrier over eight kilometers to finish fifth overall, stopping the clock in 23:59.0, in helping lead the Wildcats to their second victory of the season.

Only three Division I runners and teammate Eddie King crossed the line ahead of Intravaia, who finished less than two seconds behind the race winner, in the field of 179 finishers.

Intravaia came in eighth at the season-opening Capital Cross Challenge after running in only one event as a junior last season.

He and the Wildcats will have their final tuneup for the postseason this Saturday at the Triton Classic in La Jolla.

On Nov. 3, they will open the postseason at the CCAA Championships at Cal State San Bernardino.
