HAYWARD – Lindsey Dias became just the eighth player in Chico State women's soccer history to reach 50 career points and the 10
th to total 20 career goals in the Wildcats' 2-0 win at Cal State East Bay Sunday.
Dias delivered the second goal of the match in a similar fashion to many she's scored during her four-year career, rising up and flicking an Erin Woods free kick into the far corner of the net from approximately 10 yards.
It marked Dias' fourth goal of the season. She scored one as a freshman, six as a sophomore, and nine as a junior. Dias has also delivered 10 career assists.
Chico State is now 7-7-1 overall and 3-7-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with two regular-season matches to play. Cal State East Bay fell to 3-8-3 and 2-6-0.
Caitlyn Duval logged her six shutout in 13 career starts Sunday.
The Wildcats got on the board in the 31
st minute. A quick ball out of the back following a Cal State East Bay free kick put Carlie Reader on the attack. The sophomore slipped a pass to herself in behind the last defender, setting up a footrace that she would win. Reader attempted to push the ball around the goalkeeper. It was deflected, but Reader ran it down and slammed it into the open net for her second goal of the season and the fifth of her career.
Chico State's defense limited Cal State East Bay to just four shots, led by the back line of Woods, Korie Bozart, Abbie Jones and Brooke Coelho. Caitlyn Duval saved a pair for her fifth shutout of the season and sixth clean sheet in 13 career starts.
The Wildcats will return home to wrap up the regular season against Sonoma State Friday at 7 p.m. and Humboldt State Sunday at 2. The team's five seniors – Amanda Simonich, Shelby Lanksbury, Katie Brown, Emily Shleppey, and Dias – will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to Sunday's match.
