Dylan WakefieldThe Wildcats won their California Collegiate Athletic Association opener 1-0 Friday at Humboldt State for their third consecutive one-goal win, extending their unbeaten streak to four matches.
Matt Hurlow drew a foul in the box and converted the penalty kick 14 minutes into a physical match between long-time rivals.
Chico State improved to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the CCAA, while Humboldt State fell to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats out-shot Humboldt State 11-5, and Triston Montoya made a pair of saves for his first collegiate shutout.
Hurlow led the team with five shots, including three on goal. Omar Nuno and substitute Dylan Wakefield took two shots apiece.
The Wildcats are back in action Sunday at Sonoma State (4-2-1 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA).
