ROHNERT PARK – A sweep would have been sweet, but a split will have to do.
Following a 2-0 loss at Sonoma State on Sunday, the Chico State men's soccer team is finally coming home to University Soccer Stadium, where the Wildcats have played just once all season.
They'll host Cal State East Bay Friday night at 7 and Cal State Stanislaus Sunday at 2 p.m. in their first two home conference matches of 2015.
Chico State beat Humboldt State in its California Collegiate Athletic Association opener on Friday, and another good result was within striking distance Sunday. The teams were in a scoreless deadlock until the Seawolves broke through with a goal in the 51
st minute. They added a second goal in the 67
th minute to salt the match away.
Chico State is now 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA. Sonoma State improved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats actually out-shot their hosts 12-10 and earned a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. But they couldn't find the back of the net.
Omar Nuno led the Wildcats with three shots, while Carter Johnson and Jesus Ramos took two apiece.
Friday night's home match is Faculty/Staff Appreciation night, meaning that Chico State staff and faculty can stop by the athletics department main office (Acker 135) and pick up as many as four free tickets to the doubleheader. The women will play at 4:30 and the men will follow at 7.
