SAN BERNARDINO – The Chico State men's soccer team is coming home happy. Dylan Wakefield scored the match winner in the 77
th minute as the Wildcats beat Cal State San Bernardino 2-1 in their final regular season road match Sunday.
Chico State is now 5-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after having played 10 of its 13 matches away from home.
They'll play their last four at home, beginning Friday at 4:30 against UC San Diego.
Thanks to Sunday's win, the Wildcats enter that final stretch with eyes on a possible postseason berth.
Chico State opened the scoring with Jesus Ramos' 30
th-minute strike. Carter Johnson assisted on the goal, which was Ramos' first in a Chico State uniform.
Cal State San Bernardino (3-6-3, 1-4-3 CCAA) equalized early in the second half, but the Wildcats would bounce back.
Following a Coyotes foul, Omar Nuno connected with Wakefield on the free kick and Wakefield's low liner was true.
Both teams finished with 12 shots. Wildcats goalkeeper Andrew Matthews made three saves.
