Nuno's PK nets Wildcats a point

Men’s soccer team plays to 1-1 draw against UC San Diego

It wasn't the result the Chico State men's soccer team wanted, but the Wildcats' 1-1 tie against UC San Diego Friday night at University Soccer Stadium netted them a point they desperately needed.

Omar Nuno converted on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to tie the match for good. Nuno's goal was his eighth of the season and first via penalty kick.

Chico State is now 5-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with three conference matches to play. UC San Diego wrapped up its regular season with an overall record of 6-5-6 and conference mark of 5-3-4.

The Tritons finished their CCAA slate with 19 points. They're currently part of a three-way tie for third place and will wait until next Saturday – the final date of conference action – to find out if they've advanced to the CCAA Championship Tournament.

The top six teams advance.

Chico State is in ninth place with 11 points, but the Wildcats have at least one match in hand on numerous teams ahead of them in the standings.

They'll attempt to pick up three points Sunday when Cal State San Marcos comes to town for an 11:30 a.m. kickoff.
