LOS ANGELES – The 5
th-ranked Chico State men's soccer team went from cloud nine to denied in its first weekend of California Collegiate Athletic Association action. The Wildcats dropped their second heartbreaking 1-0 decision of the weekend Sunday at Cal State L.A. in double-overtime.
Chico State, unbeaten during non-conference play while logging four shutouts, got a taste of its own medicine this weekend, failing to score. They gave up the game-winning goal with five minutes left in regulation Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Cal State L.A. got the golden goal in the second minute of the second overtime Sunday.
The Wildcats fell to 5-2-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the CCAA.
The match was as close as the score indicated. The teams had taken 14 shots apiece before the Golden Eagles' Halil Tozar scored the game winner.
Cal State L.A., the coaches' pick to win the CCAA title, improved to 5-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the CCAA.
Chico State will attempt to get back on track next weekend when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 4:30 and UC San Diego Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
