Carter Johnson's sneak attacks and Justin Saul's sensational goal led the Chico State men's soccer team to a 2-0 win against Cal State Monterey Bay on "Senior Day" Sunday at University Soccer Stadium.

Johnson jumped all over a square pass from a defender near the top of the left side of the 18-yard box in the 25
th minute. Only a jersey grab by Otters defender Julian Salas kept Johnson from a clear path to the goal. But Salas was cited for his jersey snatch and shown a red card, forcing Cal State Monterey Bay to play a man down for the rest of the match.

Freshman Carter Johnson had a huge match on Senior Day.The Wildcats finally took advantage in the 79
th minute when Saul took advantage of the open space to score a sensational goal. Isaiah Dargan set Saul up with a pass down the left flank and the senior, who is the team's active leader in career assists but had not yet found the back of the net, did the rest. Saul attacked with a straight-ahead dribble, veered to his right, and then rifled a shot from 22 yards that threatened to rip through the Nylon in the back of the net.

Another Johnson sneak attack in the 80
th minute made it 2-0. Dylan Wakefield's pressure caused aworried defender to play the ball back to goalkeeper Evan Drake and Johnson jumped the play from the back side, poking the ball by a shocked Drake.

It was the true freshman's third goal of the season.

Chico State's defense allowed only six shots, none of which were on goal, as Luke Dennison notched his seventh shutout of the season.

Chico State improved to 8-6-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with its second
Senior Michael Janjigian and the Wildcats notched
a Senior Day shutout.consecutive shutout and third clean sheet in the past four games. But the Wildcats were eliminated from CCAA Championship Tournament contention moments later when Cal State Stanislaus stunned Cal State Dominguez Hills with an overtime goal.

Chico State's five seniors – Michael Janjigian, Akwafei Ajeakwa, Joachim Gasmi, Saul and Malcolm Ekeruche – were celebrated prior to the match.
