Justin Saul slapped a bow on his collegiate career with a pair of assists as the Chico State men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Cal State San Bernardino in its season finale Thursday at University Soccer Stadium.
Michael Janjigian.Chico State finished the season unbeaten in its final three games, 8-6-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State San Bernardino is now 9-4-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the CCAA.
Saul set up Matt Hurlow's 17
th-minute equalizer, collecting his own cleared corner kick and then crossing it back in to the far post where Hurlow headed it home. Hurlow, who finished with a team-leading six goals this season and will head into his senior year in 2015 as the team's active leader with 13 held his ground nicely to position himself for the strike.
Saul, a senior from Malibu, helped even the match again late in the second half, sailing a 40-yard free kick to the PK spot. Carter Johnson jetted around the defense and flicked it on into the back of the net with a header to make it 2-2 in the 88
th minute.
Johnson, a true freshman and two-time Washington State Gatorade Player of the Year, found the back of the net for the third straight match and finished the season with four tallies.
Sixth-year senior Michael Janjigian also played his final match in a Wildcats uniform Thursday, along with Akwafei Ajeakwa, Joachim Gasmi and Malcolm Ekeruche.
