WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Chico State student-athletes are encouraged to reach for new heights in the field of competition, and that determination seems to have crossed over to their work ethic – and success – in the classroom. A school record 47 Wildcats are among the 511 recipients of the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) All-Academic award for the 2012-13 academic year.
Chico State racked up the third-highest total of academic awards among conference schools, trailing only UC San Diego and Cal State Monterey Bay.
The total of 47 All-Academic recipients also marks the fifth straight year that the number of Chico State student-athletes cited by the conference for their academic achievements has increased. The Wildcats boasted 42 CCAA All-Academic winners in 2011-12; 41 during the 2010-11 academic year; 38 in 2009-10, and 37 honored in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.
Twenty of the 47 Chico State student-athletes honored have won multiple CCAA All-Academic awards.
Varsity student-athletes who participated in one of Chico State's 12 CCAA-sponsored sports, totaled a minimum of 24 semester units and earned a 3.40 or higher grade point average for the 2012-13 academic year were eligible for All-Academic recognition.
