Dempsey goes deep in 3-0 win

Box Score HAYWARD – Kagen Hopkins hurled a two-hit shutout to lift the Chico State baseball team to a 3-0 victory at Cal State East Bay Sunday. Hopkins (3-0) struck out eight and walked two.

He allowed a single in the third and a bunt single in the seventh. It wasn’t until the seventh that an East Bay runner reached second base. No one made it to third base all day against Hopkins.

Myles Dempsey went 2-for-4 with a home run to lead to the Chico State offense. Ryne Clark drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Austin Prott singled home a run.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 10 in the nation, improved to 15-5 overall and 8-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Cal State East Bay dipped to 19-8 overall and 12-8 in the CCAA.

Chico State, which has played its first 12 CCAA games and 16 of its first 20 overall on the road, returns home to face Cal State Stanislaus next weekend. The Wildcats will play 19 of their final 28 games at Nettleton Stadium.
