Box Score 2 HAYWARD – The Chico State baseball team absorbed a doubleheader sweep for the second Saturday in a row. Chico State dropped a pair of 2-1 affairs at Cal State East Bay to fall to 14-5 overall and 7-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Troy Neiman (2-2) was the hard-luck loser in game one. He allowed a pair of solo home runs over six innings of work. Sean Martin pitched the final two frames.
Myles Dempsey gave Chico State a 1-0 lead with an RBI-triple in the third, but that proved to be the Wildcats’ lone run against Sean Becker (5-1).
Mike Botelho (1-1) took the loss in the nightcap, allowing just two runs on four hits in four innings of work. Chris Rodriguez tossed the final two frames.
The Wildcats trailed 2-0 before Blake Gibbs led off the sixth with a home run. A double play snuffed out the potential tying run later in the inning, however.
Michael Pope (6-0) earned the win for Cal State East Bay, which improved to 19-7 overall and 12-7 in the CCAA.
The series concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
