Wildcats roll in series opener at East Bay

Box Score HAYWARD – Nick Baker threw eight strong innings and Myles Dempsey went 4-for-4 as the Chico State baseball team beat Cal State East Bay 12-1 to open a four-game series on Friday.

Baker allowed only one run on nine hits in eight innings to improve to 4-0 on the season. The 10th-ranked Wildcats improved to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

Cal State East Bay fell to 17-7 overall and 10-7 in the CCAA.

The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11.

Cody Slader, Jon Peters, Cody Webber and Blake Gibbs banged out two hits apiece for the Wildcats. Peters and Dempsey drove in two runs apiece.
