Box Score The Chico State baseball team put a pretty bow on the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 13-0 win against Northwest Nazarene University Friday afternoon at Nettleton Stadium. Nick Baker combined with three relievers on a two-hitter and Cody Slader notched his second four-hit game in six days as the fifth-ranked Wildcats improved to 11-1 on the season.
Baker retired the first 12 hitters he faced and surrendered just two hits in six innings to improve to 2-0. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. The junior right-hander has allowed only one run on seven hits in his first 18 innings of work in 2013.
Slader went 4-for-4 to raise his season average to .400 and reached base all five times he came to the plate. He scored twice and drove in two runs. Austin Prott and Roger Boulden also banged out two hits and two RBI apiece. Cody Webber was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI while stretching his hitting streak to eight games.
Fourteen Wildcats in all contributed to their season-high hit total of 19.
Jeremy Perez, Morgan Yee and Mike Botelho each fired a hitless inning in relief.
Eric Angerer singled to lead off the game and scored on Webber’s sacrifice fly and the Wildcats were off and running.
Pierson Jeremiah and Prott drove in runs in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Webber, Prott, Boulden and Slader drove in runs during a four-run fifth that busted the game open 7-0.
And 11 Wildcats came to the plate during a six-run eighth. Jordan Beck doubled in a run, Ruben Padilla smacked a two-run single. And Jake Bailey, Boulden and Slader capped the scoring with RBI hits.
The Wildcats are now off until March 8-10 when they continue conference action at Cal State Monterey Bay.
