Wildcats commence crown defense in Carson

Hope to extend six-game win streak against Toros

The only real mar on the Chico State baseball team’s marvelous 2012 season was its mediocrity on the road. The Wildcats were far from terrible away from Nettleton Stadium, going 15-14, but Head Coach Dave Taylor certainly hopes for a little more success this year.

The 8th-ranked Wildcats set a solid tone by sweeping a four-game season-opening set at Academy of Art last weekend. And they hope that trend continues as they commence their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title defense this weekend against Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.

The series begins with a single game Friday at noon, continues with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m., and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.. All four games will be broadcast locally on FOX Sports Radio 101.7 FM and 1340 AM and online via the Wildcat Webcast link at www.chicowildcats.com.

While Chico State was finishing in a tie for first place atop the CCAA standings last season, Cal State Dominguez Hills was wrapping up a very disappointing season in last. The Toros, just two years removed from a 41-win season and NCAA Championship Tournament berth, went 14-34 overall and 10-30 in the CCAA.

This season the Wildcats are picked to win their second straight conference title. Cal State Dominguez Hills was picked to finish ninth in the CCAA’s preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Cal State Dominguez Hills brings a 3-2 record into the action after taking two of three games against Academy of Art to open the season before splitting a doubleheader against Point Loma Nazarene last Saturday.

The Wildcats have won six straight against the Toros and lead the all-time series 49-22-1.
