CHICO – Already boasting one of the top Division II prep recruiting classes on the West Coast, the Chico State men’s basketball team has added prolific shooter Mike Rosaroso to the fold. Rosaroso, the Delta League’s Most Valuable player as a senior at Sacramento’s Franklin High School last season, knocked down 131 career 3-pointers as a 3-year varsity starter. He signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Chico State earlier this month.
“We’re really excited to sign Mike,” said Wildcats Head Coach Greg Clink. “He’s a big-time perimeter shooter and a proven winner.”
Those familiar with the local prep scene may remember Rosaroso’s 25-point, nine-rebound, four assist-effort in a 76-74 overtime victory against Chico High School back on Dec. 5. The Wildcats went on to finish 26-6 and earn a berth in the Northern California Regional Playoffs behind Rosaroso’s team-high averages of 16.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.1 steals. The 5-foot-8 guard knocked down 48 3-pointers, shot 76 percent from three free throw line, and even pulled down 3.2 rebounds per game.
As much as the Chico State coaching staff was impressed by Rosaroso’s basketball ability, it’s his winning mentality that really won them over.
“The team’s Mike has led have won 71 games over the last three years,” said Clink. “He has a knack for running a team and putting his teammates in a position to succeed. He’s received outstanding coaching from Jesse Formaker and we’re really looking forward to him being a Wildcat.”
Rosaroso is the second Franklin High School product signed by Clink and his staff in the last two years. Amir Carraway, Rosaroso’s teammate two years ago, will be a redshirt freshman on the team this season.
Rosaroso joins Jordan Barton (Bishop O’Dowd), Nate Appel (De La Salle), and Jordan Semple (Arcata High School) in the Wildcats’ acclaimed 2010 prep recruiting class.
