CHICO - Chico State Head Baseball Coach Dave Taylor, like every other collegiate baseball coach heading into his season opener, has laid in bed on many nights over the last month imagining what his opening day lineup card will look like, who will make up his starting rotation, and less excitedly, wondering about the weather. The weather certainly put a wrench in his plans last weekend as the Wildcats' scheduled season-opening series against Simpson University was washed out.
Taylor and the Wildcats are praying for a break in the clouds this weekend as they're scheduled to host Cal State East Bay in their 2010 and CCAA opening series. Weather permitting, the teams will tangle at 2 pm Friday, in a doubleheader Saturday at noon, and the series finale Sunday at noon.

The Wildcats are coming off a bittersweet 2010 season in which they finished a respectable 35-21 but missed out on postseason play for the first time in 14 years. But they're 124-53 in three seasons under Taylor's watch, including 73-27 at Nettleton Stadium.
Cal State East Bay enters the weekend with a record of 2-1 with victories against Menlo College (4-0) and Cal State Monterey Bay (7-5) and a loss to Vanguard (4-0) on its ledger. The Pioneers are in their first season in the CCAA.
