Supporting Information: Chico State senior guard Jon Baird (Mount Vernon, WA/Shasta JC) averaged 18.5 points and knocked down 7-of-13 3-pointers to help lead the Wildcats to a pair of road wins against UC San Diego (77-68) and Cal State East Bay (68-53) over the weekend. Baird, who increased his conference lead in 3-pointers made, also made all 10 of his free throw attempts and chipped in 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Thursday in a 77-68 win at UC San Diego, Baird struggled with his shooting touch, but scored nine points in the game’s final 10 minutes as the Wildcats rallied from eight points down by closing the game with a 30-16 run. He also contributed three rebounds, three assists (including two in those final 10 minutes), and a steal.
Saturday, Baird scored a season-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He made 5-of-8 threes and all four of his free throw attempts. He also chipped in a pair of rebounds and two assists. He scored 18 points in the second half while burying 4-of-5 treys as the Wildcats broke open a tight game to win going away.
