In 2015 Aja Erskine earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and All-West Region honors, and the year before that competed in the NCAA Track & Field Championships. The Fairfield product's decision to sit out the 2016 season has not dulled her sprinting skills one iota, as she proved Saturday at the American River Invitational in Sacramento. In just a handful of hours, Erskine posted a new personal best time in one event, and entered the Chico State record books with her contributions in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay. Erskine's extremely productive day on the track makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Erskine started Saturday by teaming up with Marina Berrios, Kayla Lawson and Hailey Jackson to win the 4x100-meter relay, just missing an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark with a time of 47.08 seconds—the fourth-fastest time in the event in Chico State history.
Erskine then finished third in the 200-meter dash, posting a personal best time of 25.0 seconds.
She wrapped things up with a victory in the 4x400-meter relays, combining with Berrios, Michelle Holt and Jenavieve Turner to register a time of 3:53.22—the 10th best 4x4 in Wildcat history.
Erskine and the Chico State women's track & field team are in the Bay Area this weekend, competing at both the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Stanford Invitational.
