Ruby Davis has already put together a sensational 2016 season for the Chico State women’s track & field team, but the senior looks as if she’s far from reaching her peak. Davis enjoyed her most successful meet to date Saturday at the UC Davis-hosted Woody Wilson Classic, notching a personal best in the long jump and playing a key role in a first place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, with both performances ranking among the 10 best in Chico State history. Her dynamite day makes Davis the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Davis began the Woody Wilson Classic by placing second overall in the long jump with a PR mark of 18-feet-10.5. Not only was it the second-best effort by a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) athlete so far this year, but Davis also etched her name in the Chico State record books with the ninth-best long jump in Wildcat history.
Saturday afternoon Davis shared the winner’s circle with Marina Berrios, Kayla Lawson and Lyndsey Settle, taking top honors in the 4x100 relay with a time of 47.56 seconds. It stands as the CCAA’s third-fastest 4x100 in 2016 and the fifth-best in Chico State history.
Davis and the rest of the Wildcat women’s track & field team will be in Berkeley Friday and Saturday to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on the University of California campus.
