Heading into last weekend’s series against Cal State Dominguez Hills, sophomore Brooke Langeloh had made just four starts in her Chico State softball career. Based on her results against the Toros, there are likely to be many more starts in Langeloh’s Wildcat future. The righthander had a hand in every win over Dominguez Hills, winning two – one by shutout – and picking up a save as the ’Cats took three of four from the Toros. By “pitching in” so effectively, Langeloh is the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Langeloh sandwiched her save between a pair of complete games victories, giving up just two runs in 14.2 innings of work. The Escondido native struck out six, posted a 0.98 earned run average, and held the usually hard-hitting Dominguez Hills squad to a .184 batting average for the weekend.
Langeloh kicked off the weekend in impressive fashion, tossing her first career shutout while allowing just two hits in blanking the Toros 7-0. In the opener of Saturday's series-ending doubleheader, she came on in relief to record the final out and picked up a save in a 6-4 Chico State win. Langeloh then started and went the distance in the nightcap, surrendering just two runs as the Wildcats came from behind with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the Toros 3-2.
For the season, Langeloh sports a 2-1 win-loss record and a 3.92 ERA. She has already set personal highs in wins, complete games, strikeouts and innings pitched.
Langeloh and the Chico State softball team returns to University Softball Field Saturday to host New York’s Pace University in doubleheader action beginning at 12 p.m.
