Chico State center Jason Conrad clashed with NCAA shot block leader and CCAA rebounding leader Jordan Richard Friday night, and more often than not, came out on top. The Wildcats outscored Cal State L.A. 41-24 while Conrad was in the game and the big man stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, three steals, two blocks, two assists, and two rebounds in 26 minutes to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Conrad scored a pair of buckets in the first six minutes before assisting on one bucket and then grabbing a steal leading to another, helping the Wildcats build a 13-0 lead. That lead was 51-48 when Conrad was injured and lost for the rest of the weekend on a flagrant foul by Richard with 5:12 to play. Unfortunately, without Conrad in the lineup, the Wildcats wound up losing 54-53.
Conrad’s two blocked shots brought his career total to 66. He’s now just 23 shy of tying the school’s career record holder Ben Perak. With 19 blocked shots this season, Conrad is averaging 1.5 per game, putting him on a pace to finish the regular season only five short of Perak’s record.
Conrad currently ranks second in the CCAA blocked shots per game and ninth in free throw percentage at 78.8 percent. He leads Chico State in field goal percentage, having knocked down 64 percent of his shots.
