Andrew Kokinakes cruised through the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.55 at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational Saturday, finishing third in the Division I-heavy field to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. The junior transfer from Saddleback Community College also anchored the third-place 4x400 relay team.

Kokinakes’ 400-meter hurdles time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and the 11th fastest time in the nation this season. It’s also just three-one hundredths of a second out of the school’s career top-10 list.

The Wildcats’ 4x400 relay team of J. Patrick Smith, Michael Beeman, John Brunk and Kokinakes clocked a 3:18.54, good for third place and the third fastest time in the CCAA this season.

Kokinakes has improved his time in each of his first three efforts of the season. He finished first at the season-opening Kim Duyst Invitational in 56.84 and second at the Aggie Invitational in 53.99.
