The Chico State men’s cross country team will be making its 13th consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships, thanks to a second place finish in last weekend’s West Regionals. Joseph Rivera was a big part of the Wildcats’ success, notching his third top 10 finish of the season Saturday in Spokane, Wash., and in the process winning his first-ever All-West Region award. Rivera’s exceptional run has earned the senior from Tulare Wildcat of the Week honors.
Rivera’s time of 31:20 was good for 10th place on the 10-kilometer Plantes Ferry Sports Complex course. Rivera, who snagged All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors Oct. 22, joined Wildcat teammates Isaac Chavez, Johnny Sanchez, Adrian Sherrod, Joey Kochlacs, Dayne Gradone and Anthony Costales in being named All-West Region.
Rivera and the Chico State men’s cross country team will be back in Spokane Nov. 19 to compete for the national title at the NCAA Championships, taking place at the Plantes Ferry Sports Complex.
