Chico State senior defender Ryan Struckmeyer stuck with his rehabilitation from a knee injury that cost him last season, even when things were not progressing as quickly as he wanted. The Yuba City native and transfer from Sacramento State has finally rounded into form and earned his first two home starts of the season this weekend, helping lead the Wildcats to a sweep of Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay and earning Wildcat of the Week honors in the process.
 
Struckmeyer played a full 90 minutes Friday helping the Wildcats shut out Cal State East Bay 2-0 while holding the Pioneers without a shot on goal.
 
Sunday, after he was honored during pre-match “Senior Day” ceremonies, Struckmeyer served up a beautiful assist on the Wildcats’ first goal in a 3-1 win. Struckmeyer, on the right flank just inside the midfield stripe, played a diagonal ball over the top to Ferid Celosmanovic as he made a run toward the left post. He one-timed it out of the air across the face of the goalkeeper and into the top shelf to give the Wildcats a 1-0 edge in the ninth minute.
 
 
Struckmeyer played all but eight minutes on the back line over the weekend, helping the Chico State defense limit Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay to just 10 shots, only two of which were on goal.
