Chico State true freshman Octavio Guzman (Bay Point, Mount Diablo High School) netted three goals on three shots to help lead the Wildcats to a 1-0-1 weekend on the road against two top-25 teams to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. Guzman scored twice in less than six minutes in Friday's 5-0 dismantling of 23rd-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills and then parlayed a penalty in the box into his second PK goal of the season during the Wildcats' 2-2 tie at 10th-ranked Cal State L.A.

During Friday's romp, Guzman put the Wildcats ahead 2-0 when he one-timed Trevor Spurgeon’s cross at the near post less than three minutes into the second half. He made it 4-0 just 31 seconds after Chris Akwaja's goal. This time he got his head on the receiving end of Evan Johnston's free kick and deposited into the net.

Sunday, Guzman gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead when he pounded home a penalty kick in the 37th minute.

With four goals in his first six collegiate matches, Guzman finds himself in rare company. No Chico State freshman has scored four goals in an entire season since AJ Carboneau did in 2005. The last Wildcat freshmen to eclipse four goals were Jaime Rodriguez (with nine) and Michael Esser (five) during the Wildcats' 2003 run to the National Championship match. Rodriguez is also the last Chico State freshman to net four goals in a six-match stretch.
